AC CONNECTIONS
The Academic Choice Program introduced a program last year that we hope will help ninth and tenth grade students and their families make a successful transition to Berkeley High School. The goals of our AC Connections program include:
- To encourage students and their parents to network with their peers, creating informal support groups and lessening the alienation which can be experienced in a big school.
- To encourage students to develop traditional study skills, organization and time management skills and networking skills. To convince students that developing these skills will lead to success in school and beyond.
- To inform students and their parents about the resources available at BHS and how to access those resources. To encourage freshmen and sophomores to realize that successful students often need assistance and are skilled at getting the help they need.
AC Connections will have the following components:
- CORE English and Social Studies classes in 9 th and 10 th grade
- Coordination between English and Social Studies teachers on instructional approaches
- Coordination between English and Social Studies teachers on curriculum
- Class exercises relating to study and note-taking skills
- Social events - a family potluck for freshman and sophomore families
- A mentor program (organized by AC upperclassmen)
Thank you for assisting us in this effort to create a more effective and connected AC community!
