BHS Graduation Requirements

Berkeley High’s graduation requirements are are not the same as the CSU and UC admissions requirements. If you do not have a copy of the current BHS Course Catalog we urge you to pick one up at the front desk. It is a valuable and necessary resource!

Sports Team PE Credit
Students who play on a BHS sports team will be given one semester of PE credit for their team participation.

AP Classes
Advanced Placement classes are currently offered at BHS in the math, science, English, art and history departments. Students in these classes are required to take the AP test in the spring semester (usually in early May). This test is 3 hours long and will cost approximately $85.00 (fee waivers are available through BHS counselors). The test is scored on the basis of 1-5, roughly the equivalent of an F-A grading system. A passing score of 3 will often give the student college credit in this class (depending upon the college).

Honors Math Classes
Honors classes offered by the math department at BHS have been UC accredited and will accordingly be given one additional GPA point (please note that Algebra II and Geometry are not eligible for this extra point). Students who wish to participate in honors math classes at BHS will have to pass an entrance exam prior to their placement in this class. These tests are usually scheduled in the late spring and early fall by the Math Department Chair.

Special Courses and Programs
Students at BHS may also receive course credit for activities as varied as yearbook, cheerleading, work experience, peer advising, and class proctoring. Please refer to the BHS Course Catalog for current offerings and credits.
