AC College PageThe University of California The University of California system consists of nine undergraduate campuses located around the state and one graduate health science campus located in San Francisco (UCSF). If you are interested in applying to a UC campus you should pick up a copy of the UC brochure “Introducing the University” in the BHS College and Career Center. Applications to the UC system are due at the end of November. The application must be filled out on-line, and the system can be overwhelmed by demand as the deadline approaches. We therefore recommend finishing your application online before Thanksgiving. It is very important to keep a record of your pin number or password so that you can save your work on the application if you do not finish it right away. Only one application form is required for all of the UC campuses -- the application fee, however, is $60.00 for each campus you apply to (fee waivers for eligible students are available from the College Center). The online application can be located at the main UC system website, www.ucop.edu/pathways A minimum 2.8 weighted GPA from sophomore and junior year academic courses is required for admission to the UC system. For the class of 2007 and thereafter, a minimum 3.0 weighted GPA will be required. Please note that some UC campuses are more selective than others, requiring better grades and higher test scores for admission. In addition, some UC campuses have impacted majors, such as pre-med or engineering, that are more competitive. Sometime in September or October you will find out if you are an ELC (Eligibility in the Local Context) student. ELC students who complete their senior year in good standing are guaranteed a spot at one of the UC undergraduate campuses, although not necessarily at their first choice campus. The ELC designation is also a helpful indicator of class rank (top 4%) and should be included in your private school applications as well. All of the UC campuses offer an excellent education. Estimated tuition fees for the 2006/2007 school year are $6,780.00; room and board costs run around $11,000 per/year. Financial aid and scholarships are available; in 2003-4 64% of UC undergraduates received some form of financial assistance, including grants, loans, work study awards, and scholarships. Additional information regarding financial aid available through the UC is available at: www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/payingforUC UC Berkeley UC Davis UC Irvine UC Los Angeles UC Merced UC Riverside UC San Diego UC Santa Barbara UC Santa Cruz |
