Ways to Contribute to Academic Choice

We are excited about building on our successes and accomplishments to make this the best year ever for Academic Choice. In order for this to happen, we need the support of all of our parents and guardians.

Volunteer Your Time

Get involved in Academic Choice by contributing your time to help with AC community events, fundraising, student support, or special projects. Even a few hours will make a big difference! To learn more about how you can help, please contact AC's Parent Coordinator, Kate Spohr, at kspohr@berkeley.edu.

Give Your Financial Support

A gift of any size is welcome and appreciated. Our priorities this year are to support students in new and even better ways, through tutoring programs, piloting a UC Reader program that provides writing feedback for students, and an excellent new diagnostic reading program just getting underway in classrooms.  In addition, we are proud to offer crucial support to our AC teachers, and to continue development of the highly successful Social Living Curriculum.

Click here for a list of Academic Choice families who have made a contribution in support of AC this school year.

It is easier than ever to make a contribution to Academic Choice.  You can give in one of two ways:

1) Go to the website for the Berkeley High School Development Group (BHSDG):  http://bhsdg.org/2_donor.html  and click on "Make a Donation" under the PayPal logo.  Be sure to sure to write Academic Choice in the Item field so that BHSDG will direct your contribution to the AC program.

2) Mail a check (payable to BHS Development Group) to: Academic Choice, c/o Scott Lancaster, 535 Spruce Street, Berkeley, CA 94707.

Your Contributions at Work

The generous volunteer assistance and financial contributions of Academic Choice families have made possible many programs and services that directly benefit AC students, teachers, and families. These include:

Tutoring in AC Math (Geometry & Algebra) and AC English and Social Studies

Developing and implementing AC's groundbreaking 9th grade Social Living curriculum

Supporting two AC Teacher Retreats to facilitate coordination of curriculum among teachers

Providing maps and resource materials for AC's new 9th grade World Geography & Ancient Civilizations courses

Conducting educational events such as a parent/student workshop on organizational skills as well as AC's "What's Up With College?" night

Sponsoring AC social and outreach events, such as the AC BBQ at the beginning of the school year

Purchasing books for special education teachers

Creating course outlines and materials for AP Macroeconomics

Thank you for your support of Academic Choice at Berkeley High!
